About National Standard Consulting

A veteran-owned defense consulting firm built on operational credibility.

Our Story

National Standard Consulting LLC was founded in 2025 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, by Chris Young; a U.S. Navy veteran and former Department of Defense civilian with over 15 years of experience in strategic operations, satellite communications, and nuclear command, control, and communications (NC3).

The company was established to provide the Department of Defense and its mission partners with specialized consulting services that draw on direct operational experience at the combatant command level. Our name reflects our standard: the national benchmark that our founder’s programs achieved and that we bring to every engagement.

National Standard Consulting is a Colorado Limited Liability Company in good standing, registered in SAM.gov, and pursuing Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) certification through the SBA.

Christopher S. Young

Founder & Principal Consultant

Chris Young brings over 15 years of hands-on experience spanning U.S. Navy submarine communications, Department of Defense civilian program management, and NC3 subject matter expertise at the combatant command level.

As a Navy Information Systems Technician, he maintained and operated protected SATCOM terminal systems including the AN/USC-38 (FOT) and AN/USC-61 (NMT) aboard fleet ballistic missile submarines. He qualified as a Common Submarine Radio Room (CSRR) Maintenance Technician and operated across the full RF spectrum from VLF strategic communications through EHF satellite systems.

Transitioning to federal civilian service at USNORTHCOM, he served as the Training and Exercise Program Manager for the command’s Special Activities division. In this role, he overhauled an enterprise training program to national benchmark status as recognized by CJCS representatives, managing five concurrent program areas delivering 45+ exercises annually across 15 partnered government agencies.

He is a recognized NC3 subject matter expert who individually represented his command at national forums, coordinated the integration of Advanced EHF across multiple agencies, and collaborated directly with program management offices on the implementation of Presidential and National Voice Conferencing (PNVC) capabilities.
